The Sierra Leone Police intercepted suspected kidnappers at a checkpoint in Hill Station on Sunday morning. Officers stopped a vehicle carrying a victim who had been tied up and gagged.

According to District Traffic Officer Regent, Alimamy Turay, the vehicle was stopped for inspection at the Regent checkpoint but the driver refused to comply with the police’s instructions. A high-speed chase ensued, ending at Obama Junction where the driver and three accomplices fled the scene on foot.

The police discovered the victim, identified as John Jofe Koroma, in the backseat of the abandoned vehicle. He had been bound and gagged, and his head was covered with a cloth. Mr. Koroma was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

In a statement to the police, Mr. Koroma recounted the terrifying ordeal. He explained that the kidnappers had approached him, offering to buy his vehicle. Under the pretense of a test drive, they overpowered him and tied him up in the back of the car.

Mr. Koroma also provided additional details about the kidnapping. He said that the suspects had been armed with a knife and had threatened to harm him if he resisted. He described the ordeal as “horrifying” and said he feared for his life.

The police are currently investigating the incident and are working to apprehend the suspects. The vehicle used in the kidnapping has been seized and is being held at the police station.
