The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sierra Leone, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, in an effort to improve traffic flow and reduce disorder in Freetown’s Central Business District (CBD), has on the 9th April, 2025 launched an initiative that includes the provision of ten brand-new, customized motorbikes to the Sierra Leone Police Traffic Directorate.
The initiative reportedly represents a significant step in the IGP’s vision to transform the Sierra Leone Police from a traditional enforcement agency to a service-oriented institution. The goal, according to reports, is to foster peace, development, and a stronger bond between the police and the communities they serve.
The newly acquired motorbikes are anticipated to enhance traffic monitoring and patrolling throughout the capital, particularly addressing the reckless behavior exhibited by both private and commercial motorbike riders, focusing on the aims to ensure safer roads and smoother traffic conditions.
Commissioner Abdul Moijueh, the Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety, expressed confidence in the use of the motorbikes for their designated purpose. He assured the IGP that there will be robust monitoring mechanisms in place to guarantee effective service delivery that aligns with modern policing standards.
The development is said to have signaled the Sierra Leone Police’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and maintaining order in the city, thus reflecting the broader goals of the police force to establish a safer and more orderly environment for all citizens.
