In the aftermath of the thwarted coup attempt on November 26 that targeted the heart of Freetown, Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has provided a comprehensive update on the individuals currently in police custody.

IGP Sellu revealed that a total of 80 suspects are currently detained, comprising 50 serving military officers, 5 dismissed military officers, 7 serving police officers, 1 senior retired police officer, 15 civilians, 1 correctional service officer, and notably, Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

Of these detainees, 68 have already provided their statements, which have been swiftly forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for further legal proceedings. However, 12 individuals remain under ongoing questioning and interrogation as part of the extensive investigation into the attempted coup.

The continued efforts of law enforcement to thoroughly investigate and bring all involved parties to justice remain a top priority amidst this unprecedented event.
