Contrary to rumours doing the rounds and what is also described as misleading publications on local tabloids regarding the misappropriation of funds by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), following a recent trip by Leone Stars for friendly games, the Association’s President has, in an interview with The Exclusive Newspaper, cleared the air.

Speaking to this press at the weekend, the President of SLFA, Thomas Daddy Brima had this to say: “The friendly was well organized and approved by FIFA. Unfortunately, Rwanda pulled out because the processing time for the allocation of funds by their government was too short.”

The young and dynamic SLFA President continued that they had another offer from Kuwait for a Tier-A game.

“That also did not materialize because they couldn’t get their key players for a Tier-A game and we couldn’t play them on Tier-B because we were already booked for a Tier-B game with Algeria.

he said, adding that they got another offer to travel to Iraq and they even offered us a private plane, accommodation and ground transportation. Unfortunately, they wanted to play outside the FIFA Window and most of our players wanted to return to their respective clubs which made it impossible for us to fly over,” he explained further.

The SLFA boss went on to state that all that happened was normal and that there was nothing fishy in the entire arrangement. “This is not strange… it happens in football all the time,” he said confidently, adding that SLFA has plans to make a formal complaint with FIFA against the Agent, in respect of the matter.

When asked about monies spent, he smiled and said: “Government holds government’s money, though we work together. There was nothing hidden or under the carpet as erroneously alleged.”
