The Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) under the Office of the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of Civil Service commenced a management and functional review of 22 local councils across the country on Monday 13th February 2023.
The exercise was organized for the Local Government Service Commission and the Ministry of Local Government. The one-week event will engage the council’s personnel to provide efficient and effective service delivery.
This is the second MFR for the councils, the first was conducted in 2013.
During an engagement with the Freetown City Council, participating officials in the event expressed their profound gratitude to the organizers, stating that the review was timely and effective to address the challenges they face in their respective officeses.
In Pujehun, the Chairman of the Pujehun District Council, Mr Mohamed N. Mansaray, said despite challenges faced by the council, the council is making enormous strides to embark on development projects and the review process when completed, will increase the effectiveness of his office.
The Chairman of the Bo District Council, Mr Joseph M. Gbindi, said his experiences in the public sector have enabled him to address challenges with other sector players that would have ideally impeded their work.
He said the review process is a step in the right direction to clarify roles to ensure that they perform better.
Other councils participating in the review shared similar experience.
Over the years, the Government of Sierra Leone embarked on a wide range of Public Sector Reforms to address critical challenges in the implementation of programmes and activities towards improved service delivery.
The Public Sector Reform Unit is mandated to provide leadership, coordination and strategic guidance in the design, implementation and monitoring of Public Sector Reform Initiatives.
