The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Sierra Leone conducted the Civil Service Entrance Examination for over 1,700 applicants.

The examination was conducted on Saturday 24th August 2024 for applicants vying for the position of Administrative Officer, which is a key part of the commission recruitment process, to attract professionals into the Sierra Leone Civil Service.

Three exams were administered simultaneously across several locations: Government Model Secondary School and Government Rokel Secondary School in Freetown, Ansarul Secondary School in Kenema, Saint Francis Secondary School in Makeni, and Bo Government Secondary School in Bo.

Prior to the commencement of the exam in Bo, Commissioner Abu Ahmed Kemokai addressed the candidates, emphasizing that the examination was not only a test of their knowledge and skills but also a reflection of the PSC’s dedication to revitalizing Sierra Leone’s Public Service. This effort aligns with Cluster 4 of the Government’s “Five Big Changers” national development plan. He highlighted the critical role of the Administrative Cadre within the Civil Service, stressing that the right attitude is crucial for success and growth in the service.

Meanwhile, at the Kenema examination center, Mohamed Jusu, Secretary to the Commission, reiterated the importance of the Civil Service Entrance Examination as a vital stage in the PSC’s recruitment process. He informed the applicants that the examination process is in accordance with Section 152 (1) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which grants the Commission the authority to appoint, promote, and exercise disciplinary control over public service employees.

In Freetown, Government Secondary at the Model School, Brima Koita, Director of Recruitment and Career Development, revealed that more than 6,000 job seekers had applied for the Administrative Officer position and 12 other roles.

After a rigorous screening process, 4,833 candidates were deemed eligible to take the exams, which are being held in phases.

“Today’s examination is exclusively for candidates who applied for the Administrative Officer position. The exams for the remaining 12 positions will take place on Saturday, August 31, and Saturday, September 7, 2024,” Koita explained.

During an interview with journalists, Koita emphasized that transparency accountability are the cornerstones of the PSC’s recruitment process, including the examination.

In Makeni, Edwin Koroma, Manager of Selection, Appointment, and Promotion, assured candidates that the PSC remains committed to providing equal opportunities to all job seekers, regardless of their region, tribe, or political affiliation. “You can be confident in a competency-based and merit-driven recruitment process that ensures everyone has a fair chance,” Koroma reaffirmed.
