Stakeholders and staff of the Pujehun District Council convened at the Council’s Hall for a crucial meeting aimed at preparing for two significant events set to take place on October 16th, 2023.

The gathering on Monday, September 25 marked the countdown to the observance of the 2023 World Food Day and the grand launch of FEED SALONE, a momentous occasion graced by President Julius Maada Bio.

Chairman Foday Kandeh Rogers, newly elected to lead the Pujehun District Council, set the tone for the meeting with his key address. He emphasized the honor of hosting both World Food Day and the FEED SALONE launch, highlighting the vital role his district would play in these events. Chairman Rogers also stressed the importance of the presence of all Paramount Chiefs in the district during the celebration.

To ensure the success and security of the events, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has been tasked with the responsibility of erecting sixteen tents at the Pujehun District Education Council’s (PDEC) Primary School Town Field. In addition, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Correctional Center will collaborate to provide comprehensive security coverage throughout the occasion, guaranteeing the safety of both Pujehun’s residents and guests arriving from all corners of the country.

Agriculture, the cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s economy, will be at the forefront of the festivities. Visitors can anticipate a captivating display of agricultural produce, including rice, cassava, bananas, onions, and garri, showcasing the district’s rich agricultural heritage.

Adding to the cultural tapestry of the event, traditional dancers and various cultural societies will deliver captivating performances, immersing attendees in the rich traditions and cultural diversity of Pujehun.

Sub-Inspector Hassan Kargbo, speaking on behalf of the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Pujehun Division, warmly welcomed and acknowledged the presence of the Paramount Chiefs at the meeting. He assured all attendees of not only adequate but also high-quality and professional police coverage during the entire event, promising a secure and memorable experience for all participants and guests.

As the date draws nearer, excitement and anticipation continue to build in Pujehun District, as it prepares to host a momentous celebration that combines the global importance of World Food Day with the launch of FEED SALONE, a significant initiative aimed at improving food security in Sierra Leone.
