RCBank has officially opened a new branch in Kambia Town on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, marking a major expansion aimed at strengthening financial access and supporting commercial activity in one of Sierra Leone’s key border trading hubs.

The opening ceremony attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including the bank’s Board Chairman and Directors, Paramount Chiefs, members of the Kambia Traders Association, local NGOs, security agencies, government partners, a representative of the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, and senior management of RCBank.

Kambia, known for its vibrant cross-border trade with Guinea, was described as a strategic commercial centre where goods, money, and opportunities move daily. The new branch is expected to bring banking services closer to residents and businesses, reducing the need for long-distance travel to Port Loko or Freetown for financial transactions.

With the new facility, traders, farmers, importers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kambia will now have improved access to account services, money transfers, and credit facilities directly within their locality. The development is also expected to enhance safety in cash handling and promote greater financial inclusion in the district.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of RCBank, Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, described the opening as more than just a business expansion.

“This branch is more than an expansion. It’s an investment in trade, in livelihoods, and in the future of this border community. RCBank will serve Kambia with integrity, innovation, and excellence,” he stated.

Delivering the keynote address, the representative of the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone and Director of Financial Stability, John A.T. Tucker, commended RCBank for extending formal banking services to border communities.

He noted that such investments strengthen financial inclusion, reduce risks associated with cash-based transactions, and improve trade documentation systems.

“RCBank’s investment here is timely. By extending regulated banking to border towns, we reduce cash risk, improve trade documentation, and give traders and farmers the tools to grow. This is financial inclusion in action, and the Bank of Sierra Leone fully supports it,” he said.

The Board Chairman of Rokel Commercial Bank, Mr. John Sumailah, described the opening of the new Kambia branch as a historic milestone in the bank’s expansion and a major step toward improving financial access in the district.

He thanked the Government of Sierra Leone, regulators, and the people of Kambia for their support, noting that the branch reflects strong national confidence in the bank and responds to long-standing community needs.

Mr. Sumailah also highlighted the bank’s acquisition of Union Trust Bank, welcoming former UTB customers and assuring them of a smooth transition, secure services, and expanded banking options.

He emphasized the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion, regulatory compliance, and support for agriculture, trade, and small businesses, particularly in Kambia’s role as a key commercial hub.

He concluded by calling for unity and collaboration to drive economic growth and development in the district.

Paramount Chiefs present at the ceremony welcomed the development, describing the new branch as a “blessing” for traders, farmers, families, and businesses across the district.

The new Kambia branch is equipped with modern banking systems and staffed by trained personnel, with RCBank stating its commitment to delivering efficient, secure, and customer-focused services.

The opening of the branch forms part of RCBank’s broader strategy to expand access to financial services across Sierra Leone and support economic growth in underserved communities.
