A local resident has raised concerns over inadequate security at QCell Mobile Network Company’s facility on Bonth Island, citing an unfinished perimeter fence that leaves equipment—and guards—vulnerable.
Kadarah A. Wahab claims the telecom company has neglected to complete the fence around its network pole and equipment for the past five years, despite repeated appeals. Sections of the partially built barrier have collapsed, and the absence of a gate exposes the site to theft and endangers security personnel.
“The installed pole and other valuable equipment lack strong security, which poses a threat to the lives of the guards,” Wahab told Sierraloaded.
He referenced past attacks on similar facilities, including one where a guard was killed by thieves and another where a worker died from a snakebite.
Wahab warned that QCell’s inaction could lead to further losses: “If thieves break in and steal the machines or solar panels, the company would arrest [the guards] instead of fixing the problem.”
He urged the company to complete the fence immediately and called on media outlets to amplify his appeal.
QCell has not yet responded to the allegations.
