The Rise Charity Foundation, on November 28, 2023, strongly condemned the occurrences of male and female prison breaks and has urged the immediate return of the escaped inmates. These distressing incidents unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, November 26, 2023, in the capital city of Freetown.
The Foundation condemned in strongest terms the attack on the Wilberforce Military Base Armory by assailants who consequently broke into the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre and the Special Court Female Correctional Centre in Freetown More than 1,800 Inmates were left to flee and such incidents have endangered the safety and security of the public and the country at large.
The foundation has urged the authorities to swiftly institute an investigation into the alleged involvement of some security apparatus in these “Prison breaks”.
The Foundation also called on all the inmates who are serving jail terms or in remand in either of the Correctional Facilities who had run out to turn in themselves to the authorities in observance of the dictates of the constitution and for law and order to prevail in our beloved country Sierra Leone.
“We are kindly demanding that Inmates who fled the prison system without due process to return back for their own good. The Foundation remains committed in advocating for their wellbeing at all levels” they expressed.
