In a remarkable display of dedication and service, the Rotaract Club of Freetown successfully conducted a Free Medical Outreach Screening for over 500 residents at Tasso Island yesterday, Saturday, April 12, 2025.
The medical screening focused on critical health issues including Hepatitis, Diabetes, and Hypertension—with Body Mass Index (BMI) checks later added to ensure a holistic health assessment for all participants.
Tasso Island, a remote community located in the Western Area Urban District; with a Rural settings, is widely known for its limited access to healthcare services. Despite the logistical challenges, including a nearly two-hour boat journey from Kissy Terminal to Tasso Jetty, Rotaractors showed unwavering commitment to “Service Above Self.”
Led under the visionary leadership of Rtr. Alhaji Umar Sow, President of the Rotaract Club of Freetown, the club collaborated with key partners including the Gladi Gladi Trust and Tasso Health Centre to make this initiative possible. The project is part of the Club’s broader Community Well-being Project, aimed at improving access to essential health services for underserved communities.
Highlight of the Medical Expedition.
“The blissful smiles I saw on the faces of the Islanders made me realize that it is indeed true, ‘One Profits Most Who Serves Best,” Said, Rtr. Abby Bah, a Nursing Officer. She continued…“This is why we must continue to prioritize service, because Rotary is good.”
On behalf of President and the entire membership of the Rotaract Club of Freetown, heartfelt appreciation goes to:
The medical team who provided exceptional service, the Rotaractors who participated with passion and purpose, the residents of Tasso Island for their turnout, patience, and respect, and to the Gladi Gladi Trust and Tasso Health Centre for their invaluable partnership.
This successful Medical Outreach underscores the Rotaract Club of Freetown’s commitment to making a lasting impact in communities that need it most. As the journey continues, the club remains firm in its mission to uplift lives…one act of service at a time.
