The opposition of the main opposition All People’s Congress party’s delayed emergency National Delegate Conference now slated for August this year, will decide the fate of Samuel Sam Sumana who intends to contest for the party’s flag bearer race in the 2023 elections.
After a long-protracted court case, the party has resolved to adhere to the court order that precludes the participation of the Chairman and Leader Ernest Bai Koroma, the National Secretary General, Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh and a host of senior executives and go ahead with its emergency Conference.
The decision was reached at a prolonged meeting in Makeni City, the hometown of the debarred Chairman and Leader on Wednesday 21st July, 2021.
The conference will come to a decision on the controversy surrounding Sam Sumana’s rank following his readmission into the party after his expulsion and subsequent dismissal as the country’s Vice President.
Though Sumana was accepted back into the party, there has been serious controversy over his status and eligibility to contest as a flag-bearer candidate for 2023 election, since many believe he lost his previous status following his expulsion.
However, if this previous status is restored unconditionally, he will be eligible to join the presidential race. Any outcome other than the former will thwart his 2023 presidential bid in the party.
It could be recalled that Sam Sumana has abandoned the Coalition For Change (C4C) party where he sought solace after his expulsion to return to his previous party.
