Some residents of Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone have voiced their support for the All People’s Congress’ (APC) presidential hopeful, Samuel Sam-Sumana.
The said supporters expressed their loyalty to the former Vice-President outside the Diamond lodge Hotel in Kono where they were waiting to usher in former cabinet minister in the past government, Diana Konomanyi.
The former minister of Lands and Country Planning is believed to have joined Sam-Sumana’s camp with months to elections.
Sam-Sumana was expelled from the APC by the party’s National Advisory Committee (NAC) on the 6th of March 2015. Nevertheless, some members of the public believe that his expulsion came as a result of a fallout between him and his boss, former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Sam-Sumana was never reinstated after his removal amid a Supreme Court judgment albeit an ECOWAS Court ruling on his favour.
The former Vice-President competed in the previous elections under the auspices of the Coalition for Change (C4C) Party in the 2018 elections securing 3.5 percent of total valid votes casted. However, he was successful in winning Kono District.
In another vein, some of his supporters are sceptical that he will be able to compete in the forthcoming elections because of membership issues from the APC.
