Former presidential candidate Samura Kamara has urged for a comprehensive review of the June 2023 electoral process.
Kamara, the Leader of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, made this request during the Launch of the Electoral System Review, a gathering of government representatives, APC members, and development partners.
In his address, Kamara emphasized the need to scrutinize the entire electoral process, encompassing pre-election procedures, voter registration, pooling procedures, vote counting, and result announcement. He stressed the importance of identifying any systemic flaws or vulnerabilities that may have contributed to alleged or actual electoral irregularities.
Kamara expressed his conviction that a thorough review would allow for the resolution of contentious issues and enhance the credibility of future elections, ensuring that they are free, fair, credible, and transparent.
Addressing the composition of the review committee, Kamara highlighted the APC’s careful selection of members possessing proven integrity, experience, and expertise in election processes, upholding strong patriotic values.
He underscored the need for the committee to operate free from external interference or undue influence, emphasizing that it should be granted the necessary authority and power to conduct its investigations effectively. Additionally, the committee should have unrestricted access to all relevant documents, records, and information, including election results, voter data, and agreements between the electoral commission and any third parties.
Kamara also advocated for the committee’s power to summon witnesses, experts, government officials, electoral authorities, political party representatives, and any other individuals deemed necessary for the investigations. He further proposed that the committee should have the ability to request additional resources, technical expertise, or assistance from national and international organizations.
To ensure a comprehensive review, Kamara emphasized the need to collect and analyze all evidence pertaining to the electoral process. He suggested that interviews and consultations be conducted with various stakeholders involved in the electoral process to verify the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the entire election process.
Kamara also called for an examination of the conduct of electoral officers’ training process, their impartiality, and their compliance with electoral rules and regulations. He urged that any financial and electoral materials that may have been misused or inappropriately allocated during the electoral process should be analyzed and accounted for.
In conclusion, Kamara asserted that the review committee should produce a comprehensive report outlining its findings, conclusions, and recommendations. He emphasized that if any evidence of election malpractice is uncovered, the methods used, the individuals involved, and the impact on the fairness of the election outcome should be clearly documented.
Kamara’s call for a thorough review of the June 2023 elections reflects the APC’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. A comprehensive review would address concerns raised by various stakeholders and foster trust in Sierra Leone’s electoral system, contributing to a more stable and democratic society.
Dr. Samura your points or request are very correct but I thought these were the first things you would have emphasis on during the dialogue meeting. For me you would have made it very clear during the dialogue that the ECSL boss must be present since the electoral problems we ar talking about is not between the APC and SLPP but between the APC and the ECSL. What will happen if this committee say no to your demands and tell you that you would have said that during the dialogue? I pray that the people’s power will be respected and our voices will be heard this time around by these committee in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
Mr Samurai Kamara are you really proud of we the majority of voters that can one day of any time vote individuals if not you because we the good citizen are not really thinking of you anymore to claim up the become as president because of you care of partizan and that of tribalism you are always stupiding yourself with at all times.
And remember that your always stupiding hopping to those of your creativity of that of international system to come and elect you as president will never never works in our country constitution. Because they are just there to see what is happening instead taken active rules to Left you to State House to be come president. So you have to be careful of your repeated measures of frosting us in our country about your election complain that has nothing to help you in your political joining.onless putting you backwards again and again.
So please talk about delivery of good development that you and your family party arrangements are engaged on right now that we the good citizen can see and be careful watch at and confused us to vote for your party even if it’s not you Mr Kamara.so please think twice before talking about election body and it’s benefits.becouse it’s was your family party APC that really puts all these bad laws and we’re working with it’s even doe the majority of us worse not interested in your political party arrangements that was from by just few of your formal collegee. So please take a boad steps and tell your political party arrangements that we the good citizen of our country are no more looking forward from your political explaination but definitely development as president Boi is doing. So please we need action not fake worlds Mr Samurai Kamara.
Samura Kamara, you are going to die behind this election matter. Do you still want Maada Bio to hand over power to you? Please, Sir, find something better to do, politics do not fit you.
I think that’s a good idea Dr k but you guys acted very slow things you should have tackle early you wait the last minute to considering about that you guys made us suffering in this country all of you same thinking selfish
