Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, the former flagbearer of the All Peoples Congress (APC), has requested a postponement of his scheduled interview with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Cyber Crime Unit.

This follows an invitation from the CID to address circulating videos and audios where he is alleged to have referred to himself as the “President-elect of Sierra Leone.”

According to a letter dated April 30, 2025, the CID had summoned Dr. Kamara to appear at their Cyber Investigations Unit on May 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. to clarify statements made in the recordings. The CID’s investigation centers on media clips reportedly showing Dr. Kamara and others using the title “President-elect,” which they allege relates to post-election concerns.

In a response letter dated May 2, 2025, issued by his legal counsel, Franklyn Bai Kargbo, Dr. Kamara acknowledged the CID’s invitation but requested further details regarding the dates and locations of the alleged incidents. Kargbo also informed the CID that Dr. Kamara is currently out of Freetown due to urgent family matters.

“My client, being a model good citizen, is inclined to cooperate with you in the referenced matter. He would therefore be most obliged if you would kindly avail him of further and better particulars in terms of date and locations of the incidents alluded to in your said letter,” Kargbo wrote.

Kargbo requested a new and convenient date for the interview, expressing Dr. Kamara’s hope for an “expeditious settlement of this matter and in the interest of national stability.”

The CID’s investigation comes amid heightened political sensitivity following the 2023 presidential elections. The circulating videos and audios, compiled from various locations, are said to be in the possession of the Cyber Investigations Unit.
