Joseph Sannoh Calls For Review of Death Penalty Law
Salamatu Y. Kamara Former Civil Society Activist, Joseph Sannoh has called on the government of Sierra Leone and authorities concern to bring back the death penalty law for certain crimes committed by citizens.
Sannoh made this statement regarding suspects of the November 26th, 2023 attempted failed coup, stating that jailing them will not be commensurate to the crime they have committed if found guilty.
He disclosed that he would soon raise a campaign and liaise with other Civil Society Activists to help champion the cause and bring back the death penalty for certain crimes committed by individuals or groups of people.
He said certain crimes which include robbery with aggravation, Treason, Murder, etc should be charged with the death penalty adding that America and other Western world countries still have their death penalty which applies to certain crimes.
I support you J Sannoh. “Blackman nor wan saful.” If our death penalty was still in place, I don’t believe this coup attempt would have ever occurred. We need drastic measures for drastic actions.
Thank you Mr Sannoh, this is well said. I urged the parliament to bring back the death penalty immediately before trial begins for these coup plotters. We need to set example with these people.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve heard. So they can start killing their political opponents. Way too corrupt.
I get why he is now a FORMER civil society activist. Why is someone who worked as a civil society activist calling for the death penalty? His statement is also against the suspects that have been arrested. He forgot to take one thing into account, they are just that suspects, they haven’t all been found guilty yet and even if some are, I am sure there are those among those that have been rounded up, that are innocent. This to me sounds like he is a paid plant by Bio. A way to be able to kill those he wants out of the way. Look at how he is trying to drag EBK into this.

Why not? At least there might be less killings than since the trumpeted death penalty abolition. Besides, you never know, it might one day be handy to be used on Sannoh himself.
When the shoe is on the other foot and power in their heads. We all know that even the current government from the head would have benefited from the death penalty if it was in place when they did coups in the past. Should this be applied for the crimes in the past too…….

Sierra Leoneans are quick to forget. Was Bio not a coup plotter? He should be hang long time ago. 2 coup plots in 4 years. That’s two life death penalty. Today is APC. Tomorrow it will be SLPP. We pray fi long life

Death penalty is the only thing those coup plotters deserve. They have cause a lot of damages in families. They also damage people businesses and livelihood.

In religious perseption, Mr sannoh is right on the track in one way of the other by killing a human being by gun or knife 🗡️ the person too must die by it.
In addition Islamically a thief hand must be cut. That’s what Allah says in the Quran.
But due to human right bylaws they said no, Instead they will jail you and then later they give him/her a presidential pardon……. Then the same killing continue.

The removal of death penalty to certain crimes led to all problems we are currently encountering in our country, Sierra Leone.
Thanks Mr. Joseph Sannoh for your opinion expressed against the legislation made against death penalty in this country. I am also with the same opinion with Mr. Sannoh. Death penalty should not be expunged as it will definitely serve as a deterrent against the committing of such crimes as murder, treason, robbery with aggravation. It’s really unfortunate on the part of the people that have used obscene languages against Mr . Sannoh. Indeed, indecent people
are fund of uttering or expressing indecent languages against others. In fact, it’s inferable that all those people that have used the obscene languages against Mr. Sannoh are in support of the abortive coup.
Killing had been stopped since independence day till now so fooling around you carnibalism people eating and sacrificing humans in name stupidity, gaining the world loose their souls. The stones you threw against the wall shall hit you back soon.

He failed college exams, is that your business. Why can’t you ask your mother to give him her milk so he can get brain smart to write his exams and pass. It is a help from you. Think about it. I agreed with your opinion but we should start from 2018 to November 26 2023 because a lot of killing has happen within this short period.
