Save the Children has issued a statement condemning a trespassing incident that occurred at its Aberdeen office on July 9th, 2024.
The statement identifies the individual involved as UK national Sam Walker. Walker is accused of trespassing on the organization’s premises, making accusations of malpractice against Save the Children, harassing staff, and publishing their images on social media.
Save the Children maintains that Walker’s actions disrupted their critical work, exploited vulnerable children, and raised concerns about the safety and well-being of both staff and the children they serve.
The organization emphasized its unwavering commitment to the highest standards of operation, prioritizing the safety and well-being of children above all else.
“Save the Children is a registered organization in Sierra Leone, adhering to all national regulations and standards,” the statement reads. “We have a robust grievance mechanism in place to address any concerns or complaints, both internally and externally.”
Save the Children’s registration with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MOPED) ensures oversight and guidance for their operations. Additionally, their affiliation with the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO) strengthens their commitment to best practices within the humanitarian sector.
Save the Children has served Sierra Leone since 1999, focusing on critical areas like children’s rights and protection, education, and health.
