Prominent American Islamic scholar, Shayk Khalid Yasin has commended President Bio’s for his commitment to Providing 22% of his budget on education.
The scholar made this statement today, 12th February 2023 at Fourah Bay College Amphitheatre Hall.
He justified his statement as complementing the vision and flagship commitment of President Bio.
He stated that “I’m not coming in your country to asking for favours or I’m not coming into your country asking you to contribute something for the purpose of my foundation no. I am coming today to represent the Muslims in America, the new Muslims in America, those three million African American Muslims. I am coming to say we don’t need favours we just need to collaborate with you and the world will change,,
He made an analogy that the country he is coming from(United States of America) only devotes 4% of its budgetry allocation to education. He added that the president has affirmed that he wants to empower the young generation of our time to end poverty in Sierra Leone.
He further clarified that his statement is not political.
Shaykh Khalid Yasin is in Sierra Leone as a special Guest Speaker in the National Dawah Conference Program. This is his first time visit to Sierra Leone.The theme for the said event is “Islamic solutions to Social Problems”.
Khalid Yasin is an American Islamic scholar and former Christian who travels around the world giving lectures. He was born in Harlem, New York, and raised in Brooklyn with nine siblings as a Christian. Due to his family’s financial situation, he was placed for adoption.
He was raised in foster homes with some of his siblings from the age of three until he was 15.
Meanwhile, The Gambia Minister of Education, Claudia Ayo Cole recently appealed to President Julius Maada Bio to prevail on fellow West African Presidents to increase budgetary allocation to their respective education ministries even if not up to Sierra Leone’s 22%
She made this passionate appeal on the 6th February 2023, during an open discussion session in the Foundational Learning Exchange summit at the Freetown International conference center.
Minister Cole lauded President Bio for his strides in developing Sierra Leone’s educational system.
