Securiport, a global provider of border security and civil aviation solutions, has strongly refuted claims suggesting that unaccounted revenue from Sierra Leone’s eVisa system is owed to the government and that the company is responsible for missing funds.
Addressing the speculation, Securiport emphasized that since 2020, it has operated lawfully and transparently, ensuring government oversight and accountability over the eVisa system.
The company reiterated that it is not responsible for enforcing the eVisa contract, as it remains the government’s duty to direct all visa applicants to use the centralized eVisa platform.
According to Securiport, the platform was designed to enhance financial transparency, provide accurate reporting on eVisa issuance, and conduct real-time security background checks. However, enforcement challenges have persisted, with immigration officers, the National Revenue Authority (NRA), and embassies continuing to issue and collect fees for eVisas outside the designated system.
The company clarified that it can only account for the 20% of eVisas processed through its platform, with all payments directed into an escrow account jointly managed with the Government of Sierra Leone, as stipulated in the contract. The remaining 80% of eVisa fees, collected by immigration offices, embassies, and other government institutions, fall outside Securiport’s control.
“Securiport cannot be held responsible for revenue collected by government institutions such as the immigration offices, embassies, or the NRA,” the company stated.
As part of its commitment to improving Sierra Leone’s aviation infrastructure and border security, Securiport highlighted its continued engagement with the government.
The company recently accepted a reduction in traveler security fees from $40 to $25 after the government agreed to incorporate Sierra Leone Airport Security fees into ticket prices, a move aimed at improving the traveler experience.
Instead of placing blame on a reputable private partner, Securiport called for recognition of the company’s contributions to upgrading the airport, implementing digital travel solutions, and enhancing security measures.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and cooperation with the government to improve service delivery and streamline travel processes.
With improved enforcement, clearer communication, and ongoing collaboration, Securiport believes that the government can further strengthen its systems to enhance accountability and efficiency in the eVisa process.
