President Julius Maada Bio has addressed the nation following a security breach in Freetown early this morning.

In a statement, the President confirmed that attackers targeted the military barracks at Wilberforce, breaching the military armory and other locations, including the Pademba Road Correctional Center.

“The attackers have been repelled by a combined team of government security forces, and calm has been restored,” President Bio stated.

The President also confirmed the arrest of most of the leaders involved in the attack. Ongoing security operations and investigations aim to hold those responsible accountable through due process.

“We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable through due process,” he emphasized.

President Bio commended the bravery and dedication of the armed forces, police, and all those who played a role in thwarting the attempt to undermine the nation’s peace and stability.

“Their commitment to the defense of our democracy deserves our deepest gratitude,” he expressed.

The President also thanked citizens for complying with the security measures and urged continued vigilance and cooperation with the security forces.

“I advise everyone to remain vigilant and to cooperate with the security forces,” he advised.

In a call for national unity, President Bio urged all political leaders, traditional leaders, civil society, and citizens to collaborate in preserving the peace of the nation.

“Let us not succumb to fear or division. Let us come together as one people, one nation,” he appealed.

President Bio reaffirmed his commitment to the progress and development of Sierra Leone, assuring the nation’s resilience in overcoming this challenging episode.

“I want to assure everybody who is resident in Sierra Leone that we have overcome this challenge, and together we will continue on the path of progress and development,” he stated.

The President concluded his address with a heartfelt plea for God’s blessings upon Sierra Leone and its resilient people.

“May God bless Sierra Leone and its resilient people,” he prayed.

“Long live the Republic of Sierra Leone,” he proclaimed.
