The Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, William Fayia Sellu has on Saturday 21st January, 2023, witnessed the second day rehearsal training of new police recruits at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), Hastings Campus.
Speaking to the new recruits, IGP Sellu welcomed them into the force and admonished them on the negative effects of the intake of some drugs that will transform their characters contrary to the main duty of saving lives and property of Sierra Leoneans.
He revealed that, seven Police Officers had been dismissed from the Police Force, as well as been charged to court to face criminal actions on issues relating to sedative drugs and more.
IGP Sellu noted that a three-day blanket pass has been given to all recruits who want to go and see their family members, starting on Saturday 21st January, 2023 and ends on Tuesday 24th January, 2023, at 5pm prompt.
IGP Sellu later admonished them on the nature of policing, noting that they are a disciplined institution that has the mandate to maintain internal security as a core value.
“With such level of performance, very soon a date will be communicated to the Commandant with regards your passing out, though there are few corrections on your steps which can be addressed by your drill instructors,” he asserted.
The IGP revealed that an assessment team will soon arrive in Sierra Leone to conduct final assessment for the fifth contingent of the Sierra Leone Formed Police Unit to be deployed to Somalia,
The Inspector General of Police did an inspection of the Formed Police Unit Operations Room at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), Hastings Campus.
He strongly called on the recruits to be loyal to the ethics of the force and promotion of good policing.
The recruits together with their trainers showed off an extraordinary performance. IGP Sellu thanked the trainers and the recruits for an impressive display of performance.
