Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, the Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, expressed disappointment at the All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament’s decision to leave a recent meeting on electoral reforms, peace, and national cohesion before his scheduled address.
“Now is the time for all to participate in and not politicize the census. It is a shame the APC MP left before I could speak, but I hope he watches the talk later,” said the Chief Minister in his address.
The meeting, which brought together over 150 representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), aimed to discuss critical reforms necessary for a more inclusive and just society. Dr. Sengeh emphasized the importance of bipartisan participation in such discussions, stating, “Now is the time for all to participate in and not politicize the census.”
In his address, the Chief Minister outlined a seven-step plan for achieving a truly inclusive and just society. He commended President Julius Maada Bio for establishing the Tripartite Committee and championing fundamental reforms that had been long overdue.
Dr. Sengeh highlighted the need for a referendum to strengthen democratic institutions, noting that many of the 84 recommendations in the Tripartite Report had been discussed for over two decades. He also shared his experience of engaging with the APC party during a recent political standoff, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and cooperation in achieving desired outcomes.
