On September 4th, 2024, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda to pay his respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This solemn event marked an important moment of solidarity between Sierra Leone and Rwanda, two African nations with histories of overcoming significant internal strife and rebuilding from conflict.

Dr. Sengeh, accompanied by a delegation, took a guided tour of the memorial exhibits, which provided a harrowing yet deeply educational overview of the genocide. The tour exposed them to the causes of the mass atrocity, the mechanics of its implementation, and the devastating human consequences.

Through heart-wrenching testimonies and vivid displays, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the horrors experienced during that dark period, where over 800,000 Tutsi men, women, and children were murdered in just 100 days.
