Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has confirmed the successful review of approximately 60 projects supported by the Sierra Leone government’s multilateral partners, donors, and financial institutions.

The comprehensive assessment, conducted on April 2nd, 2024, sheds light on the progress and impact of these projects across various sectors throughout the country.

With a total value estimated at $1.9 billion, of which $1.2 billion remains undisbursed, these projects represent a substantial investment aimed at driving positive change and improving the lives of Sierra Leoneans. Dr. Sengeh emphasized the diverse nature of these initiatives, spanning different execution timelines and addressing critical needs in every region of the nation.

“These projects at various execution timelines are valued at $1.9Bn ($1.2Bn undisbursed). They’re impacting hundreds of thousands of lives across all sectors in every region,” stated Dr. Sengeh.

However, amidst the announcement of these developments, a concerned citizen took to social media to address what they perceive as the government’s failure to prioritize pressing issues, notably the kush epidemic and pervasive poverty. The citizen’s tweet, directed at Dr. Sengeh, questioned the efficacy of the ongoing projects and demanded clarity regarding the specific demographics benefiting from these initiatives.

“Why can’t you address the most pressing matter in the country which is the kush epidemic and the poverty. What people are these projects impacting on, please be specific as we keep hearing of projects but nothing changes,” the tweet read.

The tweet underscores the growing sentiment among certain segments of the population regarding the allocation of resources and government priorities.
