Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, during his visit to Magburaka town, received a report from Mustapha Wai, Team Lead of the Project Fiduciary Management Unit (PFMU), regarding the advancement of education sector projects being implemented throughout Sierra Leone.
These initiatives, which encompass construction and rehabilitation efforts as part of the Sierra Leone Education Sector Support Project, underscore the Government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in both secondary schools and higher education institutions.
During the briefing, Mr. Wai informed Dr. Sengeh and other pertinent stakeholders that the monitoring exercise commenced on Monday. The PFMU team, accompanied by the Steering Committee, visited several project sites, including the Milton Margai Technical University campuses located at Congo Cross, Brookfields, and Goderich, and the Prince of Wales School in Freetown, as well as provincial locations such as Bo School in Bo, Kay School in Kenema, Eastern Technical University’s Bunumbu Campus, and Magburaka Boys High School in Tonkolili District.
Mr. Wai outlined three primary objectives of the exercise to evaluate progress on construction and rehabilitation efforts at each site, to assess the quality of materials being utilised to ensure compliance with established standards, and to identify challenges encountered by contractors and stakeholders, to facilitate timely interventions. He reported that 66% of the projects have been completed, with the remaining works anticipated for completion by June 2026.
In response to the update, Chief Minister Dr. Sengeh acknowledged the level of mobilization and progress achieved thus far, while also recognizing the challenges that must be addressed to maintain the schedule.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring the timely delivery of the projects. “We are resolved to provide quality facilities that will enhance education in Sierra Leone. Through ongoing collaboration and timely interventions, we are confident these projects will be completed as planned,” Dr. Sengeh stated.
The Steering Committee, which includes school principals, representatives from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, and the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau, participated in the site visits to provide oversight and technical assessments.
