Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to South Korea, Paul Sobba Massaquoi, has recently graduated from the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden, a significant achievement that reinforces his expertise in maritime affairs and commitment to advancing Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.

Ambassador Massaquoi, a former Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA), completed postgraduate studies in Maritime Executive Management and Maritime Law at WMU. His academic accomplishment underscores his dedication to continuous learning and marks a notable step in his diplomatic career.

During his tenure with the SLMA, Massaquoi was instrumental in initiatives aimed at improving vessel registration and licensing processes, as well as enforcing stricter safety and environmental standards. His decision to deepen his knowledge at WMU was motivated by his extensive hands-on experience and the challenges facing Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.

In an official statement, Ambassador Massaquoi emphasized the importance of continuous education in the maritime field. “The skills and knowledge I have gained will not only help me serve Sierra Leone more effectively on an international platform but will also position me to contribute meaningfully to sustainable practices and innovation in maritime governance,” he said.

With his enhanced expertise, Massaquoi aims to strengthen Sierra Leone’s maritime interests globally and foster closer maritime ties between Sierra Leone and South Korea. His focus will include cooperation on maritime security, trade, and technological innovation.

Ambassador Massaquoi’s achievement is seen as a proud moment for Sierra Leone, underscoring the country’s dedication to professional excellence within its diplomatic corps and its active participation in global maritime affairs.
