Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) on Friday, September 12, 2025, held its annual Local Sourcing Awards ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Wellington, Freetown, honoring outstanding sorghum farmers for their contributions to the company’s supply chain.

The awardees received prizes including a tricycle, three motorbikes, and cash awards in recognition of their role in boosting productivity and supporting the SLBL local sourcing initiative, which aims to strengthen farmer livelihoods and promote agricultural sustainability.

Acting Corporate Affairs Manager, Unisa Conteh, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sourcing local raw materials, particularly sorghum, for its production processes. “Our initiative is not only to strengthen Sierra Leone’s agriculture but also to align with President Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone initiative and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger,” he said. Conteh added that SLBL’s local sourcing programme has created jobs, empowered youth, reduced foreign exchange demand, and built resilience in the economy.

First-place winner, Lamrana Bundu, who received a tricycle and a cash prize, expressed gratitude on behalf of the farming community.

“This award reflects not only my dedication but also the hard work of countless sorghum farmers across Sierra Leone. The support we’ve received has strengthened our farming practices and livelihoods, and this prize will help me expand my work to support other farmers as well,” he said.

The event concluded with the presentation of prizes, reaffirming SLBL’s pledge to empower farmers and support agricultural sustainability as part of a shared vision for national development.
