The Defence Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, Senior Colonel Pu Lin, has discussed possible areas of security cooperation with the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Centre Sierra Leone (NEWRMC-SL).

Senior Colonel Pu Lin made the remarks on Monday, 13 July 2026, during a visit to the Centre’s headquarters in Freetown, where he explored opportunities for collaboration aimed at strengthening peace and security efforts.

During the engagement, the Defence Attaché highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between China’s Embassy and NEWRMC-SL. He identified training opportunities for the Centre’s staff as a possible area of support to enhance institutional capacity.

 

He also outlined China’s intervention areas in Sierra Leone that align with the Centre’s work and expressed commitment to maintaining regular engagement with the institution.

The Executive Director of NEWRMC-SL, Mrs. Francess Nyuma, welcomed the visit and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to working with partners to promote peace and human security in Sierra Leone.

Mrs. Nyuma said the Centre remains open to collaboration, particularly in areas involving assessment, analysis and investigations related to human security concerns.

The Centre’s Lead Analyst, Colonel (Rtd.) Fuad Musa Kanneh, also provided an overview of NEWRMC-SL’s mandate. He explained that the institution works to identify emerging threats, coordinate responses and support evidence-based decision-making.

He highlighted the Centre’s five key areas of focus, including security, crime and criminality, good governance and human rights, health, and the environment.

The visit ended with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of peace, stability and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
