Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the U.K., Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, welcomed the newly appointed Cypriot High Commissioner, HE Kyriacos Kouros, to the Sierra Leone Chancery building today.

The meeting served as an opportunity to express appreciation for the departing Cypriot High Commissioner, HE Andreas S. Kakouris, and to lay the groundwork for continued positive relations between the two nations.

Both Dr. Manyeh and High Commissioner Kouros emphasized their commitment to working together on matters of mutual interest, both bilaterally (between the two countries) and within international organizations. They agreed to maintain close communication between their missions to foster deeper cooperation on various fronts.

Discussions focused on finalizing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in key areas like higher education, research, and sports development. These MOUs are being pursued through ongoing talks between the foreign ministries of Sierra Leone and Cyprus.

Dr. Manyeh highlighted his previous visits to Cyprus, including presenting his credentials in March 2022 and facilitating meetings with Cypriot officials, including the Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ministers. These engagements, followed by a visit from Sierra Leone’s Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources in September 2023, identified potential areas for collaboration: fisheries and marine resources, agriculture and food security, and tourism.

High Commissioner Manyeh assured his counterpart of the Sierra Leone government’s commitment to progressing these discussions. Both diplomats explored possibilities for signing MOUs and establishing Joint Commissions to solidify cooperation.

The meeting concluded with an optimistic outlook on their ability to work together effectively for the benefit of both Sierra Leone and Cyprus.
