The Sierra Leone National Public Health Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has issued a statement debunking circulating rumors regarding an Ebola outbreak in neighboring Guinea.

According to Dr. Sory Conde, the health authorities in Guinea, there have been no reported cases of Ebola Virus Disease as of February 8th, 2024. Additionally, the World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Freetown has not received any notifications regarding such an outbreak.

Contrary to the misinformation, Guinean authorities have confirmed a case of Lassa fever in Nzerekore, an area known for Lassa fever endemicity. This clarification aims to address the unfounded concerns and provide accurate information to the public.

Professor Foday Sahr, the Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency, emphasized the agency’s commitment to disseminating timely and precise information on public health matters.
