The governments of Sierra Leone and Guinea have initiated a collaborative effort to enhance connectivity between the two nations.
The meeting, held at the MPTEN headquarters, brought together key stakeholders from both countries to discuss the technical requirements for seamlessly linking their terrestrial fiber networks.
Minister Salima Monorma Bah of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, and her Guinean counterpart, the Minister of Posts Telecommunications, and Digital Economy, led the discussions.
The primary goal is to establish a robust and reliable cross-border communication infrastructure that will facilitate data transfer, stimulate digital economies, and enhance the resilience of both countries’ networks.
The meeting also focused on building shared infrastructure, launching joint initiatives to boost the digital sector, and exchanging technical expertise. The involvement of private sector players like LeoneCom and Zoodlabs SL is expected to accelerate the implementation of these objectives.
By connecting their fiber networks, the two countries aim to reduce reliance on submarine cables, minimizing the risk of service disruptions. Additionally, the partnership will foster knowledge sharing and promote mutual growth in the digital space.
With representation from key sector players like LeoneCom, Zoodlabs SL, and the MocTI communications department, the meeting is expected to accelerate the implementation of its objectives, reflecting a collaborative approach that includes both public and private sectors.
