In a significant move to strengthen its civil aviation sector, Sierra Leone has signed a groundbreaking Management Service Agreement (MSA) with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This marks the first such agreement between the country and the global aviation body since 2007.
The agreement, which was formalized earlier this week, outlines several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA). Among the primary objectives is the establishment of an ICAO TRAINAIR Plus Training Institution, designed to advance the training and skills of SLCAA staff. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in elevating the standards of aviation operations and safety in the country.
Additionally, the MSA includes the development of a comprehensive Civil Aviation Master Plan, which will serve as a strategic blueprint for the future growth and modernization of Sierra Leone’s aviation infrastructure. Other critical improvements in the sector are also on the agenda as part of the collaboration.
The achievement of this milestone has been largely credited to the leadership of SLCAA Director General Musayeroh Barrie, whose efforts were instrumental in securing the agreement. Barrie’s leadership has been praised for its focus on international cooperation and capacity-building within the sector.
The collaboration between Sierra Leone and ICAO is expected to significantly enhance the country’s civil aviation capabilities, providing a robust foundation for future development and aligning the nation with global aviation standards.
