The Chief Immigration Officer, Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, has confirmed in an exclusive interview with Global Times last night that his department will introduce new sets of Passports with improved security features soon. He noted that there is currently a huge demand for ordinary passports.
Chief Kaikai appealed to the public to be patient as efforts are being made to get the new set of Passports in the country probably before the end of this month.
Chief Kaikai refused to comment on reports that the current fees paid for Passports might be adjusted in line with the fluctuation of value of the US dollars.
The contract between the Government of Sierra Leone and Netpage Sierra Leone Limited pegged the fee for an ordinary passport at US$ 1000 which is currently Le 1,800 (one thousand eight hundred leones). Chief Kaikai refused to comment on the speculation saying, “I cannot rule out or rule I’m anything at the moment.”
A Spokesman for Netpage SL Limited told the Global Times last night that they were in talks with senior officials of the Government of Sierra Leone on the implementation of the adjusted fees of Le 1,800 (One Thousand eight hundred leones).
