The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), through its Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), has destroyed a significant cache of illicit narcotics at TOCU Headquarters in Hastings, signaling a firm stance against drug-related activities.
The destruction follows a series of recent arrests conducted across multiple locations in the country.
Addressing the media prior to the operation, CSP Mohamed Kugba Allieu, Head of TOCU, reaffirmed the SLP’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics. “This action sends a clear message to the public: drugs have no place in Sierra Leone,” he stated. Allieu outlined the stringent approval process undertaken to authorize the destruction and detailed the various categories of drugs disposed of during the operation.
Ibrahim Kargbo, Deputy Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, underscored the dangers posed by illegal substances to public health and safety. He announced plans to bolster surveillance and disrupt drug supply chains, emphasizing the government’s resolve to curb consumption and trafficking in the country.
Albert Kamara, representing the Office of National Security (ONS), reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug-related offenses. He highlighted the collaborative effort between agencies to tackle the growing threat of narcotics.
The event, attended by key stakeholders including members of the media, marks a significant step in Sierra Leone’s fight against the proliferation of illegal drugs. Officials pledged continued efforts to safeguard communities and strengthen enforcement measures nationwide.
