The Sierra Leone Ports Authority has won the 2020-2021 Best Port in Import & Export Traffic Growth in the Africa Sub-region, according report from the 6th Edition of the Africa Ports Awards Ceremony held in Prainha in Luanda, Angola on Tuesday 17th, November, 2022. The Africa Ports Awards Ceremony was under the auspices of Port Management Association for West and Central Africa (PMAWCA)
The award citation states that the Sierra Leone Ports Authority has made 153% growth in import and export traffic mainly due to the growth in container traffic coupled with the increase in mining activities of iron ore, rutile and bauxite.
SLPA General Manager, Dr. Abdulai Fofana said his administration has witnessed a focal and result-oriented port in the area of maritime compliance in the sub-region and other network maritime institutions in the world.
He said the Sierra Leone Ports Authority is closely in tough with PMAWCA in progress made in key indicators including: vessel turnaround time, berth occupancy, average waiting time at anchorage, total throughput (import and export), total cargo and vessel traffic and total container throughout in TEUs.
THE Africa Ports Award Foundation received statistics from over twenty five country ports in the Africa sun-region and then analyzed to access the level of growth taking place in PMAWCA members’ ports. The analyzed statistics then harmonized for the assessment of key indicators performance.
