The Sierra Leone Ministry of Health has released an update on the Mpox outbreak in the country, reporting a total of 59 confirmed cases and one death as of Friday, March 7th, 2025.
The latest figures reveal a concerning trend, with 9 new cases reported since the previous update. Currently, 37 cases remain active across the country. Unfortunately, there have been no new recoveries reported, leaving the total number of recovered individuals at 22. The country has recorded one death related to Mpox.
The data highlights a significant disparity in case distribution, with the Western Urban area reporting the highest number of infections (40 cases). Western Rural areas have also seen a notable number of cases (6).
Other districts reporting active cases include Bo (2), Bombali (3), Karene (1), Moyamba (2), Port Loko (2), and Tonkolili (3). Several districts, including Bonthe, Falaba, Kailahun, Kambia, Kono, Kenema, Koinadugu, and Pujehun, have reported no active cases.
The gender breakdown of confirmed cases shows that males are disproportionately affected, with 41 male cases compared to 18 female cases.
The Ministry of Health urges the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Mpox. They advise anyone experiencing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention and call the national hotline 117.
