Senior members from the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau, led by Executive Director Dr. John Paul Kaisam, today met with the Office of the Inspector General of Police at George Street, Freetown, to forge a partnership aimed at implementing standardized measuring cups across the country.

The Standards Bureau team, which included Deputy Director Amadu Jogor Bah, Human Resources and Administration Manager Emmanuel Navo, Metrology Manager Frank Martin, Finance Manager Sylvester Kamara, and Public Relations Officer Solomon Rogers, was received on behalf of Inspector General of Police Fayia Sellu by Deputy Inspector General Aiah Edward Samadia.

The meeting focused on strategies to enhance community engagement and explore legal frameworks for the potential enforcement of the new standard measuring cups. The initiative aims to ensure uniformity in measurements, particularly in marketplaces and businesses, to protect consumers and promote fair trade.

Deputy Inspector General Samadia expressed the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to collaborating with the Standards Bureau, emphasizing the importance of public sensitization and legal enforcement to ensure nationwide compliance.

Dr. Kaisam highlighted the importance of standardized measurements in fostering transparency and accountability in trade. “This partnership with the police is crucial for the successful implementation of this initiative. Together, we can ensure that the standard measuring cups reach all corners of the country, enhancing trust and fairness in commerce,” he said.

The Sierra Leone Standards Bureau plans to roll out the new measuring cups in phases, with a robust community education campaign and support from law enforcement to ensure adherence to the new standards.
