The Sierra Leone government has strengthened partnership with Turkey as Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh concluded its participation at the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum with a strategic meeting with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

The discussions centred on deepening trade, investment, and diplomatic relations, building upon the strong personal rapport between President Julius Maada Bio and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

A primary outcome of the meeting was a renewed commitment to accelerate major infrastructure projects currently underway in Sierra Leone with Turkish support including the construction of a modern Hospital in Bo -a project supported by TIKA and promoted by the First Ladies of Turkey and Sierra Leone and the construction of an International Conference Centre in Lungi to host the 79th ECOWAS Summit in July this year.

During the Antalya Forum, Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister stressed that the ultimate goal of this partnership is to position Sierra Leone as a strategic hub for Turkish industry and commerce within the African continent.

“Our ambition is to make Sierra Leone a hub where Turkey meets Africa, in Africa,” Dr. Sengeh stated, noting the role of technocrats in accelerating the implementation of presidential initiatives.

The meeting also touched upon the formalisation of educational scholarships and peer-to-peer technical engagements. Vice President Yılmaz cited the Investment and Trade Seminar held in Istanbul on May 30, 2025, as a successful blueprint for future economic collaboration.

The Sierra Leonean delegation, which included Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Ing Francis Alpha Kallon, and Ambassador Francess Virginia Anderson, expressed high levels of fulfilment regarding the mission’s outcomes. As the delegation returns to Freetown, the focus shifts to the rapid implementation of these high-level diplomatic agreements to drive national development.
