Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has secured a strategic partnership with Türkiye aimed at strengthening the fight against misinformation and disinformation.

During a high-level bilateral meeting with Türkiye’s Director of Communications, Professor Fahrettin Altun, the two leaders agreed to advance cooperation through a formal framework focused on combating information disorder, enhancing public communication systems, and building institutional resilience in the digital age.

The engagement took place on the sidelines of the 2026 International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit) in Istanbul, where Minister Bah positioned Sierra Leone as an active global partner in shaping responsible and credible information ecosystems.

During the Enagement, Minister Bah stressed on Sierra Leone’s commitment to transparency, proactive public communication, and media literacy as central pillars of governance. He noted that the agreement with Türkiye represents a major step in strengthening national capacity to respond to misinformation through coordinated strategies, technical collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

This partnership reflects our determination to stay ahead of the evolving challenges of misinformation by working with credible global partners to strengthen how we inform, educate, and engage our citizens,” Minister Bah stated.

Professor Altun welcomed the collaboration and affirmed Türkiye’s readiness to support Sierra Leone through technical assistance, joint initiatives, and capacity-building programmes for communication professionals.

The agreement is expected to drive cooperation in key areas including strategic communication training, digital information management, and the development of coordinated responses to false narratives across borders.
