Sierra Leoneans both home and abroad mourned the death of popular Barrister and Solicitor, Mr. Ibrahim Baba Kakay who passed away in Perth, Western Australia on 15th January, 2022 due to short illness.

Mr. Kakay was a Lawyer, former President of the Sierra Leonean Community in Perth and a valuable member of the Perth Migrant Community.

Ibrahim Baba Kakay was called to the Sierra Leone Bar in 1994 and admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone (a member of the British Commonwealth) in West Africa that has a large-scale Rutile, Diamond, Gold, Iron Ore and other mineral deposits with a potential for petroleum in the Gulf of Guinea.

He was later admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia in 2008.

As a qualified Barrister and Solicitor, Ibrahim got diverse experience across a broad range of areas including Australian native title matters, immigration and migration, commercial law, indigenous rights, mining leases and tenures and community development.

With a solid commercial, litigation, prosecution, defense, mediation, community liaison and advocacy skills, Ibrahim holds a Master of Mining and Energy Laws from the University of Western Australia. He was experienced in the Mining and Land Access matters, including exploration, joint ventures and structuring, mergers and acquisitions, environmental auditing and planning and is skilled in preparation and negotiation of complex construction contracts.

After serving his country for a while, Mr. Kakay was announced death after a shot illness.
