Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Barrie, and his delegation have paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) in Riyadh.
During the visit, Ambassador Barrie held discussions with the IMCTC Secretary-General, Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, focusing on strengthening cooperation and collaboration between Sierra Leone and the coalition. The Ambassador conveyed greetings from President Brigadier (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the IMCTC.
Ambassador Barrie also commended the coalition’s role in fostering strategic partnerships among member states. He highlighted President Bio’s commitment to the IMCTC through the appointment of Brigadier General Samuel Bob Farma as Sierra Leone’s Head of Delegation (HOD), describing him as “one of the finest young military officers” capable of representing the country with distinction within the coalition.
In his remarks, Major General Al-Moghedi outlined the objectives of the IMCTC, noting that the coalition comprises 43 member states, including Sierra Leone. He explained that the IMCTC seeks to unify the efforts of Muslim countries in combating terrorism through coordinated strategies.
He further disclosed that the coalition currently runs 46 training programmes across various counter-terrorism domains, funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These programmes focus on intellectual engagement, media strategy, counter-terrorism financing (CTF), and military operations.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the IMCTC Situation Room, where Ambassador Barrie and his delegation were briefed on the coalition’s operational hub for monitoring, analysis, and follow-up on terrorist groups and incidents worldwide.
