Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, recently toured Miro Forestry and Timber Products, a major player in sustainable forestry and wood manufacturing.
With over 2,000 employees, the company operates in the heart of Sierra Leone, focusing on environmental conservation and community development through sustainable practices.
Miro Forestry, which manages a vast 12-million-tree plantation, has developed a microclimate that contributes to environmental stability in the region. As a company emphasizing inclusivity and local employment, 97% of its workforce is local, 40% female, and 70% youth, showcasing its commitment to community integration and economic empowerment.
During the visit, Dr. Sengeh highlighted Miro Forestry’s alignment with Sierra Leone’s national goals for sustainable development. He commended the company’s impact on job creation and its provision of sustainable charcoal as an alternative energy source for nearby communities.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to supporting eco-friendly businesses that prioritize local employment and environmental preservation.
