Sierra Leone’s Presidential Spokesman, Hon. Alpha Kanu, has stated that fuel prices in neighbouring Guinea are currently higher than those in Sierra Leone, based on his recent visit to the country.

Speaking during a media engagement, Hon. Kanu explained that his observation was drawn from firsthand experience, noting that he had just returned from Guinea.

According to him, when converted into Sierra Leonean currency, the price of fuel in Guinea stands at approximately Le 36 per litre, which is higher than the prevailing price in Sierra Leone.

He made these remarks while addressing growing public concerns about the rising cost of fuel in the country. The issue has been a major topic of discussion among citizens, particularly due to its direct impact on transportation and the overall cost of living.

Hon. Kanu emphasised that despite recent increases in fuel prices locally, Sierra Leone continues to maintain comparatively lower fuel costs than some countries within the region. His comments were aimed at providing context to the current pricing structure and to highlight regional differences.

The spokesperson’s statement comes at a time when citizens are closely monitoring fuel price trends and seeking clarity on government measures to manage economic pressures associated with increases in essential commodities.

Fuel pricing remains a sensitive issue in Sierra Leone, with many citizens calling for sustained efforts to stabilise costs and cushion the impact on livelihoods. Government officials have continued to engage the public on the matter, often drawing comparisons with neighbouring countries to explain prevailing price levels.
