Sallieu Sesay, Head of Brand, Marketing, and Corporate Communications at UBA Sierra Leone, recently delivered a practical guest lecture to second-year communications students at Fourah Bay College (FBC).

Acting in his capacity as the Interim President of the Sierra Leone Association of Communications and Public Relations Professionals (SLACPRP), Sesay’s presentation, titled “Marketing Communications: Practices, Tools, and Personal Experiences,” provided a roadmap for students preparing to enter the professional workforce.

The lecture aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry reality. Sesay outlined the strategic role of marketing communications in building brand equity and managing public perception. He guided students through modern campaign planning, message development, and performance measurement, stressing the growing importance of digital analytics and data-driven decision-making in the field.

Beyond technical frameworks, the session focused heavily on career development. Sesay shared insights from his own career trajectory, advising students on the importance of networking, seeking internships, and continuously developing soft skills such as clear writing, adaptability, and critical thinking. He also provided actionable advice on preparing for job interviews and building a strong professional portfolio.

The interactive session prompted questions from students regarding reputation management, social media, and real-world campaign strategies. FBC faculty praised the event for aligning with the curriculum and giving students a realistic view of industry expectations.

The lecture is part of SLACPRP’s ongoing initiative to partner with academic institutions to mentor young talent, raise professional standards, and create internship pipelines across Sierra Leone’s communications sector.
