The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has strongly condemned recent threats made against journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah, presenter of the Morning Devotion programme on Truth Radio, describing the incident as a serious assault on press freedom and freedom of expression.

According to SLAJ, the threats emerged after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, allegedly made by Madam Admire Bio, in which a background voice issued verbal threats and hurled abusive remarks at Mr. Bah. The Association stated that the attack followed Mr. Bah’s public commentary on the devastating impact of Kush, a dangerous drug that continues to ravage Sierra Leone’s youth.

In a statement issued on 14th October 2025, SLAJ expressed deep concern for Mr. Bah’s safety and called for immediate action by the Sierra Leone Police. “We are deeply disturbed by this report. Threats against journalists are unacceptable and must be treated with the utmost seriousness,” said SLAJ President, Alhaji Manika Kamara.

The Association emphasized that such threats are not only dangerous and disrespectful but also represent a direct attack on constitutional rights. SLAJ cited Section 11 of the 1991 Constitution, which guarantees press freedom and the responsibility of the media to hold government accountable, and Section 25(1), which upholds the right to freedom of expression.

SLAJ urged the police to urgently investigate the matter and ensure the protection of all journalists from harassment, intimidation, or violence. “An attack on one journalist is an attack on every Sierra Leonean’s right to know,” President Kamara stated, reaffirming SLAJ’s solidarity with Mr. Bah and all journalists committed to truth and public accountability.

The Association also appealed to citizens, public officials, and political actors to demonstrate civility and tolerance, stressing that the media plays a critical constitutional role as watchdogs of society. SLAJ concluded its statement by reaffirming its unwavering support for press freedom and pledging to stand with all journalists facing threats in the course of their duty.
