The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has submitted its official report on the 2024/25 Premier League season to the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA), reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability in football governance.
The presentation, held at the Ministry of Sports’ Bishop House in Freetown, was led by SLFA Vice President Alie Badara Tarawallie. He explained that the submission of a season report was essential for ensuring that relevant authorities are fully informed about how the league is managed, particularly given the government’s financial investment in the game.
“We are here for two reasons: to deliver the full report of the 2024/25 league season and to officially present the new Premier League Board for 2025/26,” Tarawallie said. “Despite challenges such as delayed payments and slow reporting in the previous season, this report reflects the progress made in strengthening league operations.”
He also highlighted Sierra Leone’s growing presence on the continental stage, citing the U-17 girls’ historic triumph at the WAFU tournament in Liberia as a major milestone for women’s football.
Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, commended the SLFA for submitting the report, describing it as an important demonstration of accountability in sports administration.
“Transparency is not just a formality; it builds trust,” she remarked. “What SLFA has done today is commendable. Failure to report doesn’t always mean wrongdoing, but it raises doubts. Today, you’ve cleared those doubts.”
She also urged the new Premier League Board to focus on improving officiating standards, youth development, and gender inclusion in football governance. “We would like to see at least one woman included on the board. Gender inclusion must be part of the forward movement in our football structure,” she stressed.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s continued support for the sport, noting that funding strategies are already being explored for the upcoming season.
