The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) conducts a two-day management workshop to develop a comprehensive five-year Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime sector.
Held at Fabulous Resort from October 30-31, 2024, the workshop brings together key stakeholders within the SLMA to map out a clear vision for the future of Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.
Under the theme, “Strengthening Our Maritime Sector Through Strategic Vision and Leadership,” the event is focused on identifying strategic priorities that will enhance maritime safety, regulatory compliance, and foster sustainable economic growth in the sector. The workshop is also intended to align SLMA’s goals with both national and international maritime standards.,
In his opening address, SLMA Executive Director, emphasized the importance of the retreat, stating, “This gathering allows us to evaluate our progress, address ongoing challenges, and develop a concrete roadmap for the future.
Our aim is to ensure that the maritime sector becomes a key driver of national development while maintaining high safety and operational standards.”
The workshop will facilitate discussions on several critical areas, including vessel registration, safety enforcement, environmental sustainability, and capacity building.
Participants will engage in collaborative exercises designed to foster innovation, optimize resources, and establish measurable goals for the sector.
The strategic plan resulting from the workshop is expected to serve as a framework that will guide SLMA’s operations over the next five years. This long-term plan will also reinforce the Administration’s commitment to delivering quality service and ensuring the maritime sector continues to contribute to Sierra Leone’s economic development.
The SLMA remains optimistic that the workshop will generate practical solutions that will shape the future of the country’s maritime industry and bolster its international standing.
