Sierra Leone Roads Authority has issued out a press release following a social media video, showing damages underneath the Aberdeen Bridge. The Sierra Leone Roads Authority clarifies the assumptions of the public that there is a major structural failure on the bridge.

In the Press Release, the SLRA stated that, they had dispatched a team of structural engineers to the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation on the bridge for immediate remedial action, whilst a medium to long term actions are being planned, adding that the outcome of the investigation shows that there is indeed a damage in the modular expansion joint, which is largely due to the deterioration of the dampers towards the Aberdeen approach, but there is no immediate risk of collapse of the bridge.

The SLRA assures the public that they have mobilized to remedy the defects temporarily, whiles permanent measures are being pursued as follows:

  1. Detailed investigations of the entire bridge with preference to the bridge piers.
  2. Design of maintenance scheme and rehabilitation of the bridge as suggested by the detailed investigation.

The SLRA therefore encourages the public to be patient as all effort is being made to ensure that the bridge is restored to its original status.
