Dr. Francis Sowa Esq., has been elected as the new Dean, Faculty of Communication, Media and Information Studies, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.

Sowa has been a lecturer at the Department (now Faculty) for over 14 years (since 2010) and had previously served as a lecturer, senior lecturer and Head of Department (HOD).

Sowa holds numerous degrees ranging from BA (Hons), MA, M.Phil in Communication and Media Studies and Ph.D in Philosophy, all obtained at the prestigious Fourah Bay College from 2005 to 2019.

While it differs from one university to another, the dean’s position generally involves managing students and faculty on the one side, and liaising with senior management on the other.

Dr. Sowa is a researcher, academic leader who have managerial Qualities.  He is a key member of Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) which comprises of key stakeholders from the media industry and academic institutions in the country including the Department of Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College, (FBC, Mass Comm), The Independent Media Commission (IMC), Guild of Editors (GoE), Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), Sierra Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ), Independent Radio Network (IRN), Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU), Cotton Tree News(CTN) and the Ministry of Information and Communication.

MRCG was established as an independent corporate entity funded by the UNDP to act as the key driver of the media reform agenda in Sierra Leone.
