The Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has called on opposition Members of Parliament (MPs), particularly those from the All People’s Congress (APC), to end their ongoing boycott and return to Parliament in the interest of national service.

In a formal address delivered on Tuesday, the Speaker stressed that all MPs, regardless of political affiliation, have a constitutional duty to represent and serve the people of Sierra Leone through active participation in parliamentary proceedings.

He cautioned that involvement in external engagements should not interfere with legislative responsibilities or the critical decision-making processes of the nation.

“It is time for us to come to Parliament and commence the Republican Service. All other considerations must be secondary,” the Speaker stated.

The appeal follows the APC’s continued boycott of parliamentary sittings. The party had earlier announced its withdrawal from both parliamentary and governance activities, citing concerns over the appointment and approval of Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Electoral Commissioner.

As pressure mounts for the opposition to return, the Speaker underscored the importance of unity and adherence to constitutional obligations in advancing national development.

He further instructed parliamentary leadership to convene a meeting in Chambers to address key issues affecting the House. Additionally, he reminded MPs of the provisions outlined in Section 97 of the Constitution, urging strict compliance.

The development highlights growing calls for political cooperation and the restoration of full parliamentary function in the country.
